Bulk Packaged Foods
Sprouts Farmers Market sought to merchandise specific products from the bulk department bins in shelf-stable packaging, adjacent to the true bulk department. This created an entirely new category for the grocery store: Bulk Packaged Foods.
The design language across all product sub-categories reflect the idea of “farm to package”, with hand-drawn illustrations, distressed typography, and natural textures. With minimal ink coverage, it’s implied that the labels were applied by hand, and the products filled in store.

Real Root Package Design System
With the desire to house all things Health & Beauty under a new sub-brand “Real Root”, Sprouts approached DRC to develop packaging and a fool-proof style guide to help launch the brand in a quick and efficient manner while maintaining consistency across a vast amount of products.
Real Root by Sprouts helps people “Find the Meaning of True Beauty” with an approachable, friendly, and inviting aesthetic, paired with a sophisticated color palette and hand-drawn blossoms of plant life. The blossoming illustration suggests a natural, healthy lifestyle and products that make you feel good, while also serving as a platform for color segmentation to aid in shopping.
With so many products in the lineup (and growing!), consistent use of brand assets is of utmost importance. DRC developed the style guide for third party vendors to reference in order to extend, adapt, or build from scratch any new addition to the Real Root lineup.

Sprouts has worked to redefine themselves as a cheerful, modern, fresh farmer’s market, and their product packaging needed to reflect this new attitude.
